Debs and famous people

So arch-Sabbath breaker Andrew Trimble spoke at the Foyle SU Parents and Friends’ night last night. Rugby’s answer to Steve Davis spoke really well, on ‘I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord’ (Phil 3:8). He was basically just saying that playing rugby for Ireland, winning the triple crown, the fame etc – that while nice, it was nothing compared to knowing Christ and spending time with Him every day, and at the end of the day, everything else is ‘rubbish’ as Paul said. God doesn’t care if we’re good people, He cares if we’re trusting Christ or not. And the alternative is Hell – but why would anyone go there when we have Christ offered to us?

Judging from the adulation he recieved last night, just about every Christian in Northern Ireland thinks he’s the best thing ever, which wouldn’t be easy. But he seems a really nice guy.

  1. Matt Says:

He gave me a lift home last Sunday after speaking at our YF on a similar theme. Sound bloke. Says he prepared for the big Twickenham match by sitting in a corner reading Psalm 84.

All the girls swooned as soon as he walked into the room – nice to know someone else has that problem as well!
