Reformation in Secret Prayer

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

“I ought not to omit any of the parts of prayer – confession, adoration, thanksgiving, petition, and intercession.
There is a fearful tendency to omit confession, proceeding from low views of God and his law – slight views of my heart and the sins of my past life. This must be resisted. There is a constant tendency to omit adoration, when I forget to whom I am speaking – when I rush heedlessly into the presence of Jehovah, without remembering his awful name and character – when I have little eyesight for his glory, and little admiration of his wonders. ‘Where are the wise?’ I have the native tendency of the heart to omit giving thanks. And yet it is specially commanded, Phil. 4:6. Often when the heart is selfish – dead to the salvation of others – I omit intercession. And yet it especially is the spirit of the Great Advocate, who has the name of Israel always on His heart.
Perhaps every prayer need not have all these; but surely a day should not pass without some space being devoted to each.”

Carrick GO Team – Change of date

100_1106

Shall We Sing’s secret boss Peter Loughridge, 33, this morning used the ‘immense popularity’ of the site to issue a press release informing the general public that the Carrick GO Team will now take place a week later than previously planned, and will DV be held from:

Sabbath 23rd – Friday 28th August 2009

So if you are free that week please think about applying! We could ‘harp’ on about previous years but I’m sure this year will stand out in its own right.

SWS also notes that the mighty Saw Doctors will be playing Carrickfergus Castle the day after the GO team, in an event with a remarkably similar name to a certain biannual conference featuring high profile speakers.

North West 200 going past Glenmanus

So took a sudden interest in the NW as of last week. Wasn’t at it, but tried to find a few pictures with Glenmanus in them, harder than it might seem! But here’s a few:

Western Presbytery Football Tournament

The other big sporting event of the day was the Western Presbytery Football Tournament, held at Finn Valley Athletic Club, Stranorlar. Billed as the warm up to the main Ballyclabber Tournament in the summer, Faughan had to overcome the initial disappointment that some other teams hadn’t put the same effort into assembling church teams (or turning up!), as we were split into 3 mixed teams. However it still provided some good match practice as Fallows, Fallows, Fallows and Fallows gave self-appointed team boss Steelo a selection headache ahead of Faughan’s debut in the competition.

With J Fallows successfully overcoming a broken collarbone (and if it happens again he’ll just play on again anyway), our keeper rolling back the years and Morrison playing like a man possessed, it now looks that those hoping to qualify for the team through the grandparents rule will now have to look for another team, or else persuade some in their own congregation that nothing life-threating will actually happen if they drive somewhere further than half an hour away.

Joel and Stevie and famous people

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

Sinclair had already been done, and Strob is busy being the most famous person in Donegal, so Joel and 10 star stepped up to the challenge of getting one with Eric Alexander at this year’s Scottish Reformed Conference.

Dale Ralph Davis is speaking at it next year. The audio of this year and the past two years is available online.
