The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self

The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self

How did we get to where we are in terms of transgenderism and the sexual revolution? Here’s a 400-page answer from Carl Trueman, which, as an atheist reviewer on Amazon has stated, ‘Whether or not you are a believer, it is very objective’.

Something that stands out is the role that aesthetics has played – something that has a wider application than even just to sexuality. For example, surely it goes a long way to explaining why “You can blaspheme Christ on Premier [Christianity], but dare blaspheme Meghan Markle and you are toast!”

The ‘Concluding Unscientific Prologue’ points to a way forward, managing to be realistic but not despairing. The importance that Trueman gives to community as we go forward is striking and Butterfield-esque.

Not the sort of book we might want to read, but it’s an important one!
